The "Fairy Chimney" guesthouse
is located at the end of the village Goreme in the heart of
Cappadocia. Big parts of it are carved out of one of these
famous tufa rock cones, which are locally called 'fairy chimneys' (peri bahcasi). About 1500 years ago, this cave
complex was created and used as an early byzantine
monastery. The "Fairy Chimney Inn" is
restored in a traditional way and tries
to combine original local style and modern function. Most of the rooms are equipped
with under-floor radiation heating and unique "Hamam" like
bathrooms and provide a high level of individual authenticity.
The
guesthouse is run by local born Gülcan Yücedogan-Emge
and her German husband, the cultural anthropologist Andus Emge. Andus studied the
traditional cave architecture and village life and it's social changes
in Göreme for his PhD thesis during the end of the 1980's. A decade later he came back to Cappadocia to
continue with some cultural work concerning that unique and
fast changing UNESCO world heritage site.
Gülcan and her team prepare delicious breakfasts as well as home made
local turkish cuisine (also vegetarian) after consulting. Our local and academic knowledge and private atmosphere
will provide you with an exclusive individual experience.
The quiet, peaceful and well-situated Fairy Chimney Hotel with one of the best views in the area is the last
inhabited building high up in the old old part of the village Göreme where traditional culture still plays their slowly disappearing role in daily life. So you can still see and hear donkeys, horses, chickens, dogs and cats as well as a big variety of birds.
You can start your unforgettable walks into the Cappadocian moonlike valleys with the famous
tufa caves, churches and 'fairy chimneys' directly behind our house. The village centre with the main
bus stop, all the different shops, post office, ATM's, restaurants
and bars can easily be reached by walking within less than ten
minutes.
Of course we can provide you with all kind of individual
information and hints concerning day tours and what to do in the area. During your
stay in Cappadocia you might want to go hiking, experience
a spectacular balloon flight, join a original Dervish 'Sema' ceremony in an old Caravanserai, explore underground cities, or even
go horse back riding in the area. There are rental places with ATM's, scooters and bikes in town and last but not least there are many other things you can
do in Göreme town with it's many souvenir and carpet shops, restaurants and bars.
We also provide a free WIFI-Network in our house, but of course you can also use the internet with
our public iMac computer.
