The "Fairy Chimney" guesthouse
is located at the end of the village Goreme in the heart of
Cappadocia. Big parts of it are carved out of one of these
famous tufa rock cones, which are locally called 'fairy chimneys'
(peri bahcasi). Almost 1500 years ago, this cave
complex was used for wine making within an early byzantine
monastery. The "Fairy Chimney Inn" is
restored in a careful and very much organic way and tries
to combine tradition and function. Most of the rooms are equipped
with under-floor heating and unique "Hamam" like
bathrooms and provide a high level of individual authenticity.
The
guesthouse is run by local born Gülcan Yücedogan-Emge
and the German anthropologist Andus Emge, who studied the
traditional
cave architecture and village life and it's social changes
in Göreme for his PhD thesis during the end of the 1980's.
Andus came back to Cappadocia more than a decade later to
continue with some cultural work concerning that unique and
fast changing UNESCO world heritage site.
Gülcan prepares delicious breakfasts as well as homemade
local turkish cuisine. Our local knowledge and private atmosphere
will provide you with an exclusive individual experience you
would hardly find at other places in Cappadocia. Next to it
we provide a WLA-Network, so you can use the internet with
your own or our laptop computer - if you wish or have to.
The peaceful and well-situated Fairy Chimney Hotel is the last
inhabited building within the traditional old part of the
village Göreme where donkeys and other local domestic
animals still play their slowly disappearing part in daily life.
You can start your unforgettable walks into the valleys of
the Cappadocian caves, churches and "fairy chimneys"
directly behind our house. The village centre with the main
bus stop, all the different shops, post office, ATM's, restaurants
and bars can easily be reached by foot within less than ten
minutes.
Of course we can provide you with all kind of individual
information's and hints concerning your tour planning and
stay in Cappadocia as you might want to go hiking, go for
a spectacular balloon flight, join a original Dervish 'Sema'
ceremony in an old Caravanserai, go on special tours or even
horse back riding in the area. There are many things you can
do in this area that one can easily stay in Cappadocia for
a week or even more.
